Cool On The Exterior, Warm Within
On Power & Beauty

We had a press conference this afternoon graced by the Minister of State (MOS). It was a hectic morning of preparations and I unfortunately sustained paper cuts while putting together the press kits. I am always amazed that a piece of paper, flimsy as it is, can be powerful enough to slit my skin.
MOS is a lady, a fact which heralds my respect. In this time and age, as modern as it is, I still find it awe-inspiring that women are able to climb up the corporate leader and assume positions of power. It is especially gratifying to see people scurrying about to ensure that all is in place for the arrival of Her Eminence.
Looking around me, it is not hard to find other women who are similarly entrusted with authority in their hands. B makes grown men shiver in their shoes with her hard stare and others flustered with nervousness in her presence.
Beauty is power in itself. A beautiful lady CEO exudes an aura of confidence which comes about from the knowledge that others gaze at her in admiration. It stems from the certainty that no one can guess her actual age and the way she lifts her head high gives her added poise. Clad in that figure-hugging dress in the hue of the setting sun, with her silky tresses clasped in an elegant bun, she is the face of the company.
Sometimes I wonder where I will be in 5 years' time. Or more precisely, what I will be. I look at these beautiful, powerful women and wondered what they were like when they were 21. Were they already street-smart and assertive? Or were they still fumbling about in search of their paths, like so many of us are?
Reminds me of this kindergarten song which has remained as one of my favourites:
Que Sera Sera
When I was just a little girl,
I asked my mother,
What will I be?
Will I be pretty, will I be rich?
That's what she said to me,
Que Sera Sera..
Whatever will be, will be.
The future's not ours to see.
Que Sera Sera..
