A Viet guest who visited my company sent me a weird email yesterday. I am still not quite sure what to make of it.
Torn between amusement and perplexity, I spent much effort in deciphering the not-so-proficient English it was written in. Two things were clear: He wanted to learn the English language from me, as well as be a pen pal of sorts. But I wonder how that is feasible when communication is already a problem. Hmm.
The one thing that cracked me up was his description of my smile that is "Uniquely Singapore". Surely, this is proof that the Singapore Tourism Board's campaign has had a successful outreach. But it sure makes me feel like I'm on par with our national icon, the Merlion, a nauseous lion who is under the illusion that he's a fish.

Must be the public holiday mood approaching or something.. Unleashes the loose screw in us.. coz I met two Siao Ding Dongs consecutively these two days.
Day 1: While I was jogging with my colleagues yesterday, this uncle on a bicycle swerved his vehicle in our path and sang out the name "Cecily" melodiously. Hmm.. hankering after his old flame?
Day 2: This evening after work, I was crossing the road leading to Funan when glass suddenly shattered by the feet of the pedestrians. Stunned, I looked up, half expecting that it was raining glass. Turned out that this guy standing by the divider in the middle of the road had flung a beer bottle towards us. He was grinning and yelling some intelligible words in our direction, seemingly targeted at someone among us. However, I could not trace his target. I proceeded gingerly, half-afraid that he would throw another bottle again.
Well, of coz he didn't in the end, or else I would not be sitting here typing this now.
Sigh.. I think I need to hire some personal bodyguards to stick close to me, armed with bullet/glass/rain/fire/weirdmen-proof umbrellas and radar compasses to sieve out potential dangers.

"In view of the good economic performance last year and the positive outlook, I have decided to share part of these surpluses with Singaporeans this year? I will distribute Growth Dividends to all adult citizens." - Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Budget Statement 2006
With all the talk about the progress package, I was just wondering why I have yet received any news...So I checked out the website and discovered that one must fulfill the following criteria:
Be a Singapore citizen - Checked!
Sign up for the Progress Package by 31 December 2006 - Uh-huh~
Be aged 21 years or above as of 31 December 2005 - Darn..oh wait, 31 Dec 2005?!
Why couldn't I have been born earlier?? :(
A Joke That Isn't One

My mum just passed me this old savings passbook of mine.. and I was aghast to find that $2 has been deducted from the account monthly due to insufficient funds. Since Aug 1999!
Gosh, if that's the case, then we are now in the year 2006..
Apr 2006 - Aug 1999 = 6 yrs and 9 mths = 81 mths = 81 mths x $2 = $164
Sheesh, my wealth has been going down the drain without my knowledge! And I bet the bank people are laughing hard every month, looking at the extra revenue coming in.
Sigh, I got to find the time to go down to the bank and do something about the account soon.
The bell just chimed from afar.. It's 12 noon on 1st April! No no.. I wasn't making a April Fool's joke earlier.. I wldn't be joking abt $$ rite? Sigh. Though I have always wondered why there are always bell chimes on the 1st day of every month.. like where do they come from?? And is there a special significance? Hmm.
Anyway, Happy April Fools to all!
