Cool On The Exterior, Warm Within

The Day

What an accomplishment! I just pray no one witnessed me in the act.

Had another nice gathering, gossiping and catching up with each other. Look at what we had!

As free as the wind blows...

Saturday, October 29, 2005 @ 10:25 AM

As free as the grass grows.. Born free to follow your heart...

hehe I'm finally a free bird, coz my internship's over~!

Now now, with so much time next wk, what should I occupy myself with? Perhaps I should finally embark on my exercise regime...

Strangely, I think I will miss my colleagues. The office, looking out over the Thian Hock Keng Temple everytime I'm in the pantry filling up my mug (which is like more than 5 times a day), reading my allocated materials (which include the likes of Elle, Cleo and other fashion mags). =p Somehow, over the span of those few months, I've settled down in that place.

And I also know that I probably won't be in contact with them, except for a very select few, as is always the case. I guess fleeting friendships can't withstand the test of time. It has proven true with every of the temp or holiday jobs that I have taken up. Or was it just me who didn't take steps to maintain it?

Inspiration struck

Wednesday, October 26, 2005 @ 4:18 PM

when i was terribly bored this afternoon.

So I came up with this silly tongue-twister:

Pol Pot plotted potty plans on a plant plot while high on pot.

Haha try it!

Lost

Tuesday, October 25, 2005 @ 11:30 PM

I am besieged by this sense of..

misdirection

unaccomplishment

and quick-sand syndrome.

What have I achieved in these 20 years that I dare say I'm proud of? What skills do I have that I can boast of? Am I heading somewhere, someplace?

Sinking, sinking, sinking in the murkiness of my uncertainties..

The Korean Wave Unites

Wednesday, October 19, 2005 @ 5:31 PM

I was surprised when the office cleaning auntie stopped by my desk today and asked in mandarin, "Do you watch the korean drama every mon & tues nite?" Instantly, my eyes lit up and we began a 15-minute conversation discussing the characters we loved and hated, as well as the sob-sob parts which tugged at our heartstrings.

Haha. I never imagined that I would have a common conversation topic with the aunties, except for small talk about their kids and female ailments. Oh well, this incident clearly brings forth the continuously growing popularity of korean dramas. And as my other mum colleague (who's also crazy about the same show) explains, its because of their youth era. Supposedly, romance dramas used to be immensely popular when they were in their teens but this romance trend died off till the korean wave emerged in recent years. Ahh..now we know.

So I surmise, watching korean romances = recapturing a part of their youth? Maybe.

As a sidenote, I like my current cleaning auntie lots. Simply coz she's the sweet and amiable type of ah ma. And I never realised that the cleaning auntie at my previous workplace was rather fierce in comparison, till I met this one. Hehe.

Rain rain go away...

Sunday, October 16, 2005 @ 9:43 PM

It is on cool, rainy nights like this that I feel totally at peace with the world. The refreshing breeze that blows across my face, coupled with the serenading of love songs, English or Chinese no matter, makes me oblivious to the fact that tml is Monday again, or that I'm still under the mighty flu attack. Mmm..

I'm half wishing that the rainy sky will clear soon, coz naughty me caved in to the impulse and bought a... bikini. Ahh..Yes. I was flipping thru 8 days and saw Joanne Peh's bikini feature. They looked so charming on her that I half forgot that I was boob-less. Oh well, but don't u guys ask me out for a swim soon.. Give me some time to tone up b4 i can face the world! And maybe another 5 more yrs for me to save enough $$ for a boob job. Haha..

Rain rain go away, or miss the bikini day~! =p

Of Lechers And Good Food

Thursday, October 13, 2005 @ 10:42 PM

Funny that lechers and yummy foodies go hand in hand. Just got back home from Geylang after dinner with Bra and Seaweed. Now I finally know how to get there without someone guiding me! *hmm..i think so?*

Anyway,we had the famous tian ji porridge and beef horfun. Not bad, not bad. I esp like the tian ji gravy, hot & stimulating! Whee! And the beef horfun was good too! That was the first course. Heh it was followed by dou hua, you tiao and pork floss bread with egg! Haven't had such a good meal for ages. =)

Sth really amusing happened during our meal too. This ah peh carrying poh piah in a big red plastic bag approached our table.

ah peh: "Want to buy some poh piah? $1 only. Very famous in Geylang. Do a good deed and help an old man?"

We looked at each other. Then..

Bra: "Okay lor."

ah peh: "$2 ok?"

Bra fishes for $$ in her purse..

ah peh: "How about we make it $4?"

Bra: "Erm, okay.."

Bra continues digging in her purse.. I stare disbelievingly at her..

She finally got a $5 note out.

ah peh: "Then we make it $5?"

For unknown reasons, Blur Bra agreed. And out came 5 rolls of poh piah which the 3 of us daren't eat, for we questioned its origins. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. So hilarious, yet so silly at the same time. Haha. These street peddlers sure have amazing up-selling skills! I just hope Bra's family won't feel any discomfort after consuming them, as she brought it home since both of us didn't fancy any of it.

On our way there, we did pass one of the notorious spots. Scantily clad, buxom women lounging in doorways with horny men chatting them up. Ooh. I really can't imagine working as one. With lecherous uncles checking your figure out all the time.. and eyes glued to your cleavage while talking to you. Argh!

Geylang geylang.. such a dangerous place (for innocent gals like me). But I wldn't mind going back for the food though.

What lasts in this world?

Friday, October 07, 2005 @ 10:12 PM

On my way home today, I was just glancing around the train when I saw this little girl snuggling in her mum's arms. She wrapped her little arms around her mum's neck and nestled comfortably into her warmth. What caught my attention was the look of absolute contentment on her face. Pure trust and security.. like she was in the safest haven ever..

This brought to mind boy-girl relationships. In a way, I guess this is the feeling we are fundamentally seeking whenever we cuddle up to our loved ones. The feeling that you belong, of safety, of being loved. It can make you walk on clouds in one moment or send you down to the burning pits of hell in the next. Sigh..

It is so unpredictable. One minute, you can be happy newly-weds, the next you are signing papers. Haiz, pardon me.. i'm feeling terribly nostalgic. I do hope that everyone can find their ever after though...

Extreme Fear Factor!!

Wednesday, October 05, 2005 @ 11:34 PM

One evening, a pair of moths were darting playfully around the kitchen in an eatery. One of them accidentally nose-dived into a hot wok of vegetables and got buried among the leafies. The engrossed chef, unaware of the drama beneath him, went on happily with his cooking. The other moth circled anxiously above, sending out waves of panic while helplessly witnessing the death of its comrade. A terrible demise in flames and heat, its body charred beyond recognition.

As luck would have it, the charred moth became the 'mu er' amid my veges yest nite. As usual, I was watching tv while having dinner and was absentmindedly pinching the veges with my pair of chopsticks. Any idea what the black fungus called 'mu er' in chinese is? That's what i thought I picked up until I flipped it over... and discovered that my 'mu er' seemed to have wings and feelers... eeKs! Totally lost half of my appetite..it was only about slightly smaller than my contact lens case!

The tragic moth story came to me after my bro sent the veges defect back downstairs for a new batch afterwards. He had spotted a similar-sized moth flying about the ceiling. Poor mothie... and pooorr me.

My short stint on Fear Factor was really memorable. Now, I really gotta kowtow to Allan Wu, for his courageous feats in the reality show on tv.
