A valiant attempt at Shakespeare language that ended up being a hilarious episode. Ms K shall be so proud of us!

Et tu Brute? Then fall Caesar! was my favourite quote in the entire classic. The abject despair and grief vocalised by Caesar in those last moments were so poignant and heart-stricken..

Though I used to grumble about having to study Julius Caesar as my 'O' level English Literature text, looking back, I would say I am glad I did.

Fantasies amid a whirlwind week

Saturday, November 26, 2005 @ 5:51 PM

It has been an odd, disorientating week. It has been 3 days since i started work but it feels like it's been much much longer. For starters, I haven't been busy at work yet, mostly going for induction programmes around the building. The people have been nice so far and i foresee no problems with fitting in, hopefully.

On the first day, I was brought along for a business lunch with the director. Definitely an eye-opener, though I was only there as an observer. Sitting at a table with 3 other directors was a big mouthful of air for me. *gulp gulp* But the food was nice. As part of a new committee, I am the first one on board. So i expect things will start flying at an amazing speed once all of us are in.

Class after work was more tiring than I thought it would be. Maybe my body has yet to adapt to this sudden new routine or perhaps I really had been sleeping too much before this. Heh looks like I'll have to sacrifice time set aside for my all-time favourite hobby: zZzing.

Plus, my project mates have been finalised! And they have been a swell bunch! We are going to call ourselves 2024 (my idea); because 2 of us are 20 and the other 2 are 4 years older. Haha. It's like so 2046 right? Hail Tony Leung!

Anyway, what happened yesterday was the most embarrassing incident. I am just grateful that no one bore witness to it. I went to the washroom for a slight break and had been there for quite a while before I saw a sight that stunned me. I had been drying my blouse under the hand dryer.. when I looked in the mirror and saw... urinals to my left.

Freakish, I was in the Gents!
And of course, I rushed out like I was propelled on firewheels!

I am still feeling very mortified.

I told sj online about what happened and this is a brief re-enactment of the hilarity that resulted (Can't rem exactly but this was the gist of it).

Sj: Luckily, there was no one around!
Me: haha yah, I dunno who will be screaming if that's the case.
Sj: He will probably go take a look at the sign on the door and wonder who is the weird one.
Me: Haha I will then pop over to the adjacent urinal and growl to him in a deep voice, "Hey mate, how's it going?" while raising my brows at him suggestively.
Sj: Hahaha, he'll think that you are a transvestite or something!

Now, imagine if that had happened! *grinz*

Me bobbing my adam's apple at the poor, traumatised chap who only wanted to have a pee.

An early, wet Christmas

Wednesday, November 23, 2005 @ 1:49 AM

As I sit here typing, my toes are curling from the freezing cold. According to my room thermometer these days, I am astounded to discover that the temperature sinks as low as 23 degrees celsius. Doesn't it feel like Genting to you? And as my dad would say gleefully in previous years, we are vacationing without leaving our home! *slaps head*

In the midst of all these gloomy rainfall, the human spirit shines forth and leaves me buoyant. Yesterday, I was outside when I was caught in a drizzle. Standing by the traffic light and hoping it would turn green soon, I was shielding myself with a thin file. Before I knew it, this lady stepped up beside me and smiled at me, "Let's share the umbrella."

It would be the second time that I had been the receipient of such kindness from strangers. The first experience had been at Chinatown a couple of years ago by this old lady, though by then I was already drenched. Really heartwarming, isn't it? I can't thank the 2 kind ladies enough, for that few minutes of shelter from the rain. Because it was not only the momentary shelter, but the warmth of their generosity that touched me.

Perhaps it's the changing weather recently. The sudden chill in the air and the constant rain. It would be the closest to a white Christmas Singapore will ever get. (Instead, we get a wet one. Heh.) But the Christmas spirit has evidently manifested itself.

White Christmas ~ Bing Crosby

(Written by: Irving Berlin 1942)

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas

Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten
and children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white

Dig the Diggories!

Sunday, November 20, 2005 @ 10:37 PM

I dunno if i'm suakoo but I tried something new yesterday. Macdonalds MilkShake! According to my friend, the only Mac outlet that sells it is the open air one near Pacific Plaza. It has apparently been revived on the dessert menu after a period of absence. I'm not usually a big fan of milkshakes but it struck me as rather yummy. Thick but not too milky. There are 3 flavours offered: Vanilla, Strawberry and Chocolate.

Had a mini primary school friends meet-up, just 3 of us in fact. We tried the new Wisma foodcourt. Heard the hokkien mee there is nice but the queue was too long so we gave up the idea. We caught the new Harry Potter movie too. Verdict: The movie appears rather choppy at parts i.e. jumping from one scene to the next such that it leaves me a little bewildered, especially with all the focus on just Harry's performance in the Triwizard Tournament. Go watch and you will know what I mean. Overall though, it was still rather good.
I am smitten with Cederick Diggory! So prince william-ish and looking so suave! A little like the typical american college jock, yes, but i'm still swooning...*grinz*

The word 'stress' is always associated with school I guess. It's only been the first week and I'm blown away by the amount of tutorials, lecture read-ups, extra research work we are assigned and imagine, presentations every lesson and 3 term papers this sem! Almost all of us are employed full time too. Is it just me or is this normal? Heh.

The New Kids On The Block

Tuesday, November 15, 2005 @ 11:41 PM

Class tonight was an interesting experience. It's been so long since I utilised my brain that I found it rather unsettling. Though unconfirmed, I highly suspect that I'm yet the youngest again. After the rather effective ice breaker, I found myself warming up to the rest, so much so that it felt like a class to me. Heh rather ambiguous? Hmm, it's like I felt some kind of teeny bonding with some of them, not like all of us were separate individuals with the sole intention of just getting the class done and over with.
Some facts I've noted so far:
  1. There are 3 stewardesses in my batch. Pretty gorgeous! I'm awed by their presence actually, so much eye candy! *Heh pardon my lesbian tendencies*
  2. One of the most stunning of all is a chief stewardess,with something like around a decade's experience in the industry. She had long, silky black hair that went all the way down to her waist, sharp features and a poised demeanour. Her accented American slang lent more exoticness to her entire persona.
  3. I realise stewardesses have the same kind of hairstyle?
  4. There is already a couple in my class; one half of which is one of the stewardesses.
  5. This is the saddest fact: there are only 2 guys in class? Hmm..no, make it 1. *Refer to 4.*
  6. On the 1st lesson, they are already seeking project group partners!! Ahh, I'm going to open my eyes and try to pick the cream of the crop. I sure don't want to get stuck with inactive shareholders!

Oh and I had a new haircut today too! Makes me look rather kawaii, i think. Haha!

Update!

Monday, November 14, 2005 @ 3:18 PM

In a state of grogginess last night, I was pulled out of bed by my mum to watch tv. Yes, tv. Apparently, the Golden Horse Awards was showing and my mum was excited. Through my bleary eyes, I managed to recognise Fann Wong and then Christopher Lee! Whoo! What a surprise, they were award presenters at the show!

Our local celebs have certainly gone a long way. And in a way, I feel proud of them, esp when I am feeling particularly patriotic.

~~~
Anyway, I am finally starting sch on tues! Which is incidentally tomorrow.
Time to hit the
Of meatballs and gorgeous eyes
Friday, November 11, 2005 @ 12:06 AM
Blue-grey-green. I felt like I was lost in the sea. Do all swedish guys have eyes like that? Power! I've made Sweden my destination of choice if I ever feel rich enough to visit. Not forgetting the swedish meatballs as well. Yum.
Out of 13, down to 3, then the final 1. Would I be lucky enough? *crosses fingers*
Another one lined up tml. A last min email. Suddenly, I am busier.
That a good sign, no?
Just Like Heaven
Wednesday, November 09, 2005 @ 10:57 AM
Lj & I just caught this delightful movie. I simply love romantic comedies! Aww.. its just so touching, yet funny at the same time. My favourite combination. *grinz* I think we laughed more than anyone else in the theatre, so much so that the guy half of a couple sitting next to us was throwing us weird glances. He must have been thinking, "Why did I choose to sit beside 2 mad girls who laugh like there's no tomorrow?"
My favourite funny character was the psychic bookstore guy who uncannily resembled Shaggy in Scooby Doo. The way he went 'dude', hilarious!
And the lovely complimentary coasters we got! 9 pieces in total! But we gave 3 of them to a salesgirl when we went shopping afterwards, whom might still be thinking that we are un-identical twins. Heh.
The highlight of the evening was right after the movie, when we were laughing at the poor guy who was sitting beside us in the theatre earlier. Then both of us looked up at the up-riding escalator and saw this couple ahead of us. You know how couples like to hug on the escalators? Well, that was what this particular couple was doing...but the gf was pressed so hard against the bf's chest that she looked like she was suffocating. Haha! His huge expanse of chest was like a huge white pillow smothering the gf! The comic sight cracked us up and we were tearing madly before we could compose ourselves.
I can't help grinning even now..hehe! Totally unwinding..It was definitely a heavenly date!
The House Of Sleep
Tuesday, November 08, 2005 @ 2:10 PM
By Jonathan Coe
This is one of the 3 books that I have finished the past week. (This is what happens when you are having too much free time on your hands and feeling anti-social. Heh.) In fact, I just completed The House of Sleep last nite and my mind was still buzzing when I went to bed.
An interesting read, I would say. Funny in a sinister way and the storyline keeps you guessing at every turn, surprising you with each relevation. The chapters alternate between the past and present and I loved how they seemed to blend almost seamlessly.
I found myself caught up in the lives of the 4 friends, especially Sarah's, in their love lives and how their sleeping disorders affected the way they turned out. There's Sarah, the narcoleptic female lead with dreams so real that she can't tell them from reality, thus leading to many misunderstandings arising from her condition. Robert, the college friend besotted with Sarah, whose life changed dramatically due to one of Sarah's dreams. Terry, the freelance journalist, who barely sleeps a wink nightly and gregory, the eccentric ex-boyfriend of Sarah's with weird fetishes. Somehow, the characters are richly built-up and their fates entwined in such a way that as you read on, you hear everything clicking into place in your mind.
I learnt quite a bit about sleeping disorders too. Finally! There's new knowledge occupying a spot of my grey matter. Thus yest nite, while I was entering Stage 1 sleep, a random thought led me to the discovery about a distant cousin of mine, whom I now suspect might also be narcoleptic. She used to fall asleep in class regularly, even if she had sufficient sleep at night. And I heard she even dozed off while in the midst of her 'O' levels English exam a couple of years back. Hmm. Likely yeah?
I'm a Singaporean
Sunday, November 06, 2005 @ 11:51 PM
I was at the pool the other day. It was a cloudy afternoon and internally, I was lamenting my missed opportunity to soak in some much needed Vitamin D. So, in between swimming laps, i was watching this plump teenage boy being coached freestyle by his equally well built dad. Or rather, I was watching out for his arrival. Somehow, he would splish-splash his way vehemently past me and other swimmers, drenching us (though we were essentially wet) with his enthusiastic sprays of chlorine water. He was, i thought amusedly, like a whale struggling to swim in a fish tank.
But what really spoiled my relaxed mood was an incident that happened a while later. I was lazing by the side, lost in my own thoughts when the man beside turned towards me, speaking in that chinese accent,
"Xiao jie, ning shi zhong guo ren ma?"
I turned paler than I already was. I muttered a "bu shi. ben di ren" and promptly bolted to the other side of the pool. And I proceeded to get out of the swimming complex in haste.
Does being fair indicate a stamp of my identity?? This wasn't the first time that I had been mistaken as a tong zhi, as well as being chatted up by china guys. Argh, the other time was at Popular (Can you imagine, Popular?!) when I was approached while flipping through some books. Same ending as with previous experiences, I couldn't get away quickly enough.
I was reminded of this unforgettable incident back in sec sch during a geo class. We were covering the one-child policy and my teacher was getting the opinions of PRCs on this domestic policy of their homeland. Then, she called my name. "What do you think of the policy then?" I was stunned. I informed her that I was born and bred local and it was her turn to look astonished. She even further clarified, "So you didn't migrate here when you were young or something?" *faints*
Is there a stigma of being thought of as a china lady? I would think so. Several of my friends would balk if anyone linked them to that land of communism. Granted, the china students that I had come across in school were mostly smart young ladies, given that they were here on scholarship. Perhaps it's the stories of a minority of these citizens who have sullied our impression of them. Like the 'pei du mama' saga previously, with blown-up stories of how these women set up their trade in sleazy massage parlours or the likes of Geylang. My roots are traced back to China, as are that of many other Singaporeans and I do wish that I am able to lift my head in pride and proclaim my oriental beginnings.
Alas, I tell people that I'm a Singaporean.
I really must get a tan. Really.
I'm Officially...
Of Vices and Me
Thursday, November 03, 2005 @ 9:52 AM
Mention vices and most people immediately think of smoking, drinking, gambling, whoring etc. In the conventional sense, I have none of these habits at all.
Not to say that without these vices, I'm a saint. (Though I am an ex-saint. And our sch's motto was 'Once a saint, always a saint'.) Upon reflection, I found some crippling characteristics of mine which qualify as vices.
Sigh, sounds really bad, isn't it? Seems to me that I'm just so not disciplined. Argh, I shall seek my inner zen and soar above my inadequacies. Maybe more yoga? Ohmmmm....
