Cool On The Exterior, Warm Within
The Office Creep

It all started with stories I heard. Rumours off the grapevine, I thought. Might not hold true?
Little incidents happened here and there. My previous intern became a target and got asked out for lunch. Someone else caught him sneaking peeks at the parting back of a female colleague. The general response was hilarity, coz none of us took it seriously.
Then one day, it happened. My colleague caught him snapping pics of us with his mobile while we were standing around, chatting. I was creeped out.
Today, I was aghast when someone brought him into my office and introduced him to me. Of all the people in the world, I do not need to make his acquaintance. The guy meant it as a prank of course, but I was not amused. Not at all.
This brings to mind a novel that I'm reading. Why do serial killers go on their rampage? What makes them click and go bonkers? The face of a killer - decent, run-of-the-mill, the man on the street. It is what goes on behind that human mask that makes you shudder.
The office creep. Armed with a guileless grin that he flashes at anyone, he looks so ordinary that you wouldn't pay much attention to him. You wouldn't think that he might not be... harmless.
I am still jittery. Not that anything untowards might happen, but the unease lingers and refuses to leave. Now he knows where I sit. He knows. And I no longer feel safe.
