A Viet guest who visited my company sent me a weird email yesterday. I am still not quite sure what to make of it.
Torn between amusement and perplexity, I spent much effort in deciphering the not-so-proficient English it was written in. Two things were clear: He wanted to learn the English language from me, as well as be a pen pal of sorts. But I wonder how that is feasible when communication is already a problem. Hmm.
The one thing that cracked me up was his description of my smile that is "Uniquely Singapore". Surely, this is proof that the Singapore Tourism Board's campaign has had a successful outreach. But it sure makes me feel like I'm on par with our national icon, the Merlion, a nauseous lion who is under the illusion that he's a fish.
